How We Work
We provide pathways for our participants to develop the economic mobility to move out of poverty. No one service can address the many challenges people living in poverty face — we believe that success comes from participation and achievement in four areas: Assets, Income, Wellness, and Connections.
Rubicon transforms East Bay communities by equipping people to break the cycle of poverty. Our vision is an East Bay without poverty.
We provide services at six locations in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

“At Rubicon, they talk about building networks and connections all the time. Your network can help you find a job, your friends can be there to support you when you feel like you can’t go on, but the biggest gift that my sobriety and my stability have given me has been earning the trust of my wife and daughter again.”
Like You Wanna Breathe
“At Rubicon they are there for you, more than 100 percent. It’s a family that really, really loves you.”
“I never had a job before I came here. So that was a challenge for me, getting up in the morning. Sometimes I wasn’t in the mood, but my workshop group always got me in the mood.”
“It feels great to get support from Rubicon. When I’m feeling down, getting a call from Javier, my Employment Specialist, reminds me that someone cares. That’s been keeping me up and going.”
Rubicon Values at Work
Our values are more than words; they are the underlying principles that guide our decisions at every level of the organization. We believe that by acting on our values, we will achieve our vision of an East Bay without poverty.
We believe in the promise of fairness, equality, and opportunity for all people.
Jane Fischberg Chief Executive Officer
We live in a time and place that is rich in resources, yet the distribution of this wealth is far from equitable. We each have the opportunity to influence others. I see each and every day the trust Rubicon participants have in our staff, and I am proud of the role we play in equipping people to understand the social context in which we live, and also believe in themselves.
Our optimism and hope drive us to constantly seek justice.
Robert Alexander Senior Housing Coach, Rubicon Richmond
I believe and have faith in participant’s potential. I encourage and build them up, even when they cannot see it for themselves, I call that a holistic approach.
We are responsive to the ever-evolving needs of the people we serve and the community in which we live.
Michael Quinnine Site Manager, Rubicon Oakland – San Pablo
Hope is what drives me on a daily basis. The hope to create a better life and opportunities for those we serve and the communities we touch. To see a glimmer of hope and optimism in the eyes of our clients is one of the most rewarding gifts one could ever receive.
Yes, we transform lives!
